Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said the state was using all resources to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals in Pakistan.

He was talking with the adviser of the Department of External Security Affairs of China, Mr. Wang Daxue, who met him on Wednesday in Islamabad.

Rana Sanaullah said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif himself oversees matters relating to the security of Chinese citizens.

He said all culprits involved in the Karachi terror attack will receive exemplary punishment.

He said a Foreign National Security Cell has been established in the Ministry of Interior, which aims at effective coordination to ensure the safety of all foreign nationals, especially Chinese citizens, in Pakistan.

He said ironclad security arrangements had been made for Chinese nationals working on various projects in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

The Minister said that effective coordination is ensured between the provinces and the federal government to avoid such incidents of terrorism in the future. He said Pakistan and China have a decade-old historic relationship.

During the meeting, discussions were held on bilateral relations and other issues of mutual interest. They also exchanged views on measures to insure Chinese nationals in Pakistan.

Both sides expressed determination that incidents like terrorism in Karachi should not affect Pakistan-China relations. They agreed to further strengthen coordination between the Ministry of Interior and the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals in Pakistan.

The Home Secretary expressed his grief and sadness over the loss of the lives of Chinese citizens in a terrorist incident at the University of Karachi.

Speaking on the occasion, Wang Daxue said China will continue financial and technical cooperation in ongoing development projects with Pakistan.

He said the Chinese leadership attaches immense importance to relations between the Pakistani and Chinese peoples. He expressed his determination to jointly thwart any conspiracy by disbelievers to spoil Pak-China relations. However, he hoped that the investigation into the terrorist incident in Karachi would be completed as soon as possible and that the culprits involved in this heinous act be taken to task.
