Doha: The State of Qatar and the Federative Republic of Brazil affirmed their concern to strengthen and develop bilateral relations in various fields and to work for the development of the economic partnership to raise it to a level worthy of prosperity for the economies from both countries.

This came in the joint statement of the State of Qatar and the Federative Republic of Brazil, which was issued as part of the official visit of HE the President of the Federative Republic of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro to the State of Qatar. at the kind invitation of His Highness the Amir. His Highness the Amir held an official session of talks at Admiri Diwan with HE the Brazilian President which focused on ways to strengthen and develop bilateral relations between the two friendly countries in all fields. Views on issues of common interest between the two countries were exchanged. The talks reflected the good bilateral relations and similar views between the two countries.

The statement said that His Highness the Amir and His Excellency the Brazilian President stressed the importance of bilateral political dialogue and agreed to continue strengthening relations through high-level visits and diplomatic dialogue mechanisms. HE President Bolsonaro has invited His Highness the Amir to visit Brazil on a date to be determined through diplomatic channels.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common interest, including the political and economic situation in Latin America and the Middle East.

Aware of the possibilities of the Brazilian economy and of the level of economic development reached by the State of Qatar, the two sides agreed to study ways of raising the economic partnership to a level worthy of the prosperity of the economies of the two countries. .

HE the President of the Federative Republic of Brazil indicated that his current visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of the independence of the State of Qatar, adding that this important date represents the emergence of the modern State of Qatar in the community international, as well as its membership in the United Nations and the League of Arab States, as well as other important international organizations. On this occasion, he congratulated the government and the people of the State of Qatar.

The statement added that HE the Brazilian President praised the remarkable development achieved by the State of Qatar over the past five decades. His Highness the Amir also congratulated HE the President, the government and the people of the Federative Republic of Brazil on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of its independence, which will be celebrated in 2022.

Recognizing the importance of the transport and procurement sector for the global supply chains and economic development of the two countries, they also agreed to explore possibilities for bilateral cooperation in this area, including negotiations on the conclusion of a maritime transport agreement.

They reiterated, according to the press release, the importance of the field of defense for bilateral relations, and announced their willingness to consider joint initiatives in this field on the basis of the memorandum of understanding signed between the ministries of defense. of the two countries in October. 2019.

They affirmed their intention to build a partnership in the field of defense products which includes various aspects, research and development, provided that the memorandum of understanding concerning the strategic partnership related to the development, production and marketing defense products, confirmed in Doha on this occasion, will form the basis of this cooperation.

They noted the important role of the science, technology and innovation sector in increasing the competitiveness of their national economies, and expressed their determination to explore the complementarities between the two countries in the aforementioned sector, and agreed to start negotiations to reach a cooperation agreement on the ground.

The statement added that Brazil congratulated the State of Qatar for its preparations to host the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup at the end of November and the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar and offered to share the accumulated Brazilian experience. in the field of the organization of major sporting events. the previous years.

The two sides stressed that mutual understanding and ties between societies provide a better basis for strong and resilient bilateral relations, and agreed to encourage cooperative initiatives in the fields of culture, education, tourism and sport.
