Hanoi (VNA) Deputy Minister of National Defense Senator Lieutenant-General Hoang Xuan Chien hosted a reception in Hanoi on April 5 for Lao Deputy Ambassador to Vietnam Chanthaphone Khammanichanh, during which he appreciated the defense cooperation between the two countries, especially between their military regions and border guard forces.

Chien said the year 2022 is significant as it marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of bilateral diplomatic relations and 45 years since the two nations signed the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.

The Ministry of National Defense has drawn up a plan to hold nearly 30 activities to celebrate the Vietnam-Laos Year of Friendship and Solidarity 2022, he said.

The deputy minister proposed that the two sides continue to implement this year’s cooperation plan, in particular to ensure security and safety in border areas, fight against crime and illegal migration, respond to natural disasters and disease as well as non-traditional security challenges. He added that the Vietnamese ministry also hopes to intensify joint activities with the Lao and Cambodian defense ministries.

Chanthaphone thanked the support of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense and the Vietnam People’s Army in recent years.

He told the host that Laos has set up a national steering committee for the Year of Laos-Vietnam Friendship and Solidarity, and the Ministry of Defense has also set up a steering committee. piloting for the realization of the activities on this occasion./.
